Low-floor vehicles from the driver’s seat
Low-floor vehicles are written about almost exclusively from the passenger’s point of view. We asked the people who spend a shift in them.
Visibility is the main issue
A low floor means a different angle on the stop and on the kerb. All five drivers agreed that the worst is the view backwards along the vehicle when pulling away from a stop — and that the camera system replaces it only until the first rain.
Fatigue
The new seat has adjustable lumbar support, which shows in the second half of a shift. What has not improved is bogie noise under the cab; in the older generation the motor sat further from the driver.
The small things that decide it
Somewhere to put a thermos, a hook for a jacket, reaching the main switch. None of it appears in a catalogue, and yet drivers say it decides whether a vehicle is „a good one“.
